Tracey McMenamy loves dogs. She works as a foster parent for the rescue organization Operation Paws for Homes. Her husband is a police officer who has been in the department for 12 years. She loves him, but is constantly worried about his safety. According to ABC, 16 cops have been killed in the line of duty this year alone.

So as a tribute to the officers, Tracey did something special when a rescue pooch gave birth to a litter of 10 little ones. She decided to name the puppies after the fallen officers. This has helped the families of these officers cope with their loss. After her story was shared, some of the puppies got adopted. A puppy called Leotta, named after Officer Noah Leotta, who was killed by a drunk driver, was adopted into Leotta’s family. Officer Guidon’s aunt decided to adopt the puppy named after her niece. Similarly, officer Colson’s family adopted the puppy named after their son.
