Many people tend to believe that beauty fades with age. But 85 years old Carmen Dell’Orefice shows us that beauty is in fact ageless. She is a well-known American supermodel, an actress, and an icon. Since the spring/summer 2012 season, she is recognized as the world’s oldest working model. When she was on the October 1947 cover of Vogue, she was only 16 years old, and she has never looked back since then.
Dell’Orefice and her mother had many financial troubles. Vogue had to send runners to their apartment to let Dell’Orefice know about modeling jobs since her family had no telephone. She roller-skated to assignments to save transport fares. She and her mother also made extra money by designing and sewing clothes. When she was 80, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of the Arts London for her contribution to the fashion industry. The video below shares her recent runway highlights and what she has to say about the definition of beauty.
